Use The Power of Positive Thinking To Enhance Your Life

Don’t underestimate the power of positive thinking. It is definitely not about being pollyannaerish and ignoring problems. It is not about sitting in the park under a tree chanting ohhmmmm and hoping for the best!

Thinking positively means you acknowledge reality BUT then you turn your undivided attention to where you are heading … consistently focusing on feeling good about where you are AND feeling excitement about where you are going.

If you are thinking but I’ve got to be focused on my problems. I can’t just be all positive about the future. You’ve got the wrong end of the stick.

When you are driving and you see a car accident happen just in front of you – do you turn your entire focus on the car accident or do you look for an escape route to ensure you safely navigate your way around the problem? Life is no different.

You MUST acknowledge the problem …. you can’t ignore a car accident in front of you, however, nor should you give it your undivided attention … use either of these tactics and you’ll plow right through it and create an even bigger problem!

As a leader you are responsible for finding problems …. but your bigger obligation is for finding solutions. And that’s why you have to master tapping into the power of positive thinking.

The Meaning of Success

The meaning of success is different for all of us. For many people the success factors they measure against have something to do with the level of influence, affluence and lifestyle that you live. But is the the only way to define prosperity?

Some time ago I met a woman who by most people’s standards is exceptionally successful. Regularly interviewed on national television and radio, fabulous husband and two gorgeous children, she has the money and lifestyle that most people only dream of. Yet spend a few hours in her presence and you get the sense that she feels like her life is a bust!

The problem is, she isn’t living a life that she feels she owns. It is very clear that she has jumped through all the hoops and collected all the trophies that would suggest she should be feeling happy, fulfilled and content with her life. Yet it seems she is none of these. In fact her ‘success‘ is missing something.

HTC lose for $40 in OnLive ‘restructuring’

HTC will have to book a $40 (£25m) loss due to its investment in the cloud gaming service OnLive, the Taiwanese handset-maker said on Monday.

Although it also has a sideline in hosted desktop delivery, OnLive is best-known for providing on-demand gaming through the cloud, allowing PC-quality games to be delivered to devices such as tablets and even smartphones.

HTC bought into OnLive in February 2011, but now OnLive has applied for what it called ‘asset restructuring’, shortly after key competitor Gaikai got bought by Sony for $380m.

“Due to lack of operating cash and an inability to raise new capital, OnLive had completed asset restructuring over the weekend. HTC estimates that it will need to recognize a $40m [£25m] provision for this investment loss,” an HTC statement read.

OnLive’s restructuring has proven somewhat contentious, as it effectively destroyed the equity held in the company by long-serving employees and investors — including HTC.

The cloud gaming service was not the only iffy investment made by HTC in recent times. Last year it also ploughed $300m into the headphones outfit Beats Electronics, only to sell back half of that stake this July.

Asia gets its fastest undersea data cable system

The gain in speed may sound small, but could prove critical to financial trades made out of the region.

So-called “high frequency trades”, controlled by computers, involve making what may be hundreds of thousands of transactions in less than a second – all determined by a program that tracks market conditions.

With banks and hedge funds competing against each other, the size of the profit or loss can come down to a matter of beating the competition by a fraction of a second, explained Ralph Silva, a strategist at Silva Research Network.

“High frequency trading is basically computer trading – you program a set of rules and as events happen – the computer decides buy or sell commands,” he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

“As all incoming data is received by all banks at the same time, and because the computers are all the same with the same speed of processors, the length of time the command takes to get to the exchange makes a big difference,” he said.

“Three milliseconds in computer time is an hour in human time,” he added.

The route for the new cable was chosen to be as straight as possible, reducing the time to get information from one end to the other to 65 milliseconds.

The data transfer capacity of 40 Gbps is the equivalent of downloading a high-resolution DVD in about two seconds.

The new facility adds to a web of undersea cables in the waters around Japan.

These include ones run by Australian operator Telstra International; Taiwan’s largest phone operator Chunghwa Telecom; and the global telecommunications service provider Pacnet, based in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Many were damaged by a powerful earthquake near Japan’s northeast coast in March 2011.

The problems helped influence where the new cable was laid, said Japan’s biggest telecommunications provider.

Free text apps: Will the govt’s SMS ban work

To ensure that the malicious rumours, which led to a mass exodus of north-eastern people in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, etc, don’t cause further panic, the government has unilaterally banned bulk SMSes and MMSes for 15 days across the country.

“We have banned bulk SMSes and MMSes for 15 days,” Union Home Secretary R K Singh told PTI.

The decision was taken after reports of widespread circulation of SMSes and MMSes containing misleading information about Assam violence and threats to people of northeastern origin living in other parts of the country. The Home Ministry has asked Department of Telecommunications to implement the order through the telecom operators.

From Sunday onwards, no one will be able to send more than 5 SMSes in one go and more than 20 KB of data through mobile phones during the ban period.

Home Secretary also said security agencies were monitoring social networking websites and trying to identify people who were using such platforms to spread rumours. Singh said exodus of people from the northeast from different cities has stopped marginally and states like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were reaching out to them to allay their apprehensions.
